First, we get upgraded on our flight to Nairobi. Legroom HELLO! (I swear I thought Lil was wanted by Interpol when her ticket started bleeping going through check in)...Turned out we were just being bumped up to "premium" economy. Excuse me! Complimentary drinks, an actual menu, constant service... We did have a minor panic attack however when we realised we hadn't given our visa thing much consideration and thus began plotting our story and synchronising our watches so that we'd get by on a tourist visa application. At this point a xanax for Lilian would have been helpful.....but don't fret! It all worked out! We breezed through, flashing a smile and a €50 note and stepped onto Kenyan soil. We knew we had "arrived" when we saw someone holding a placard with our names on them, albeit spelled incorrectly. Either that or there's still a Stephanie Cardigan waiting to be collected from the airport. The driving is hairy to say the least so we'll leave that to the brave. We're staying with our supervisor and his family for a few days until we move into our plush palacial pad, sorry I mean accommodation. Stay tuned for photos (Drinks bar in the living room). Phones and SIMs sorted already. A good mornings work. We expect to be in Nairobi for a couple of weeks then onto Kisumu in Western Kenya for field work. It's all super organised and really smooth transition. We feel very lucky and touch wood, long may it continue. Temperature is balmy. Warm but with a nice wind. Where we are is actually quite developed and not what we expected Africa to be so we are looking forward to going more rural soon. We're sásta amach! Now going to catch a few zzzzzzz's.
Later days fellow placementees. See ye back here soon. :)
Steph & Lil
